Willis L. “Hook” Baumgart, 93, of Lanesville, Indiana, died Monday, June 10, 2024, at The Villages at Historic Silvercrest in New Albany, Indiana. He was born November 23, 1930, in Lanesville, to the late Irvin and Hazel Zollman Baumgart. He was a retired vice president at Great Financial Federal in Louisville, Kentucky, was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lanesville, was a former member of the Lanesville Volunteer Fire Department, and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, R. Faye Speigelhalder Baumgart; his brothers, Gerald “Bummy” and Edgar Baumgart; and his sister, Margaret Gunther.
Survivors include his daughters, Paula Cates (Rick) and Carol Baumgart (Randy); his grandchildren, Nathan Cates (Christy), Dustin Cates, Jonathan Cates (Jacqueline), Tara Nichols, Jacob Chanley and Danielle Haire; his great grandchildren, Lillian, Chelsea, Ruby, Jaxson and Camden; his sister, Saundra Conrad (Forrest); and his special friend, Jean Windhorst.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lanesville. Rev. Mark Carnahan will officiate. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Lanesville.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Friday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Pallbearers will be Nathan, Dustin and Jonathan Cates, Jacob Chanley, Chris Gunther and Doug Johnson.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
