William Joseph Christley

William (Bill) Joseph Christley, 81, died Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He was born July 23, 1940, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Ola Margaret (Hudson) and Dr. William Wade Christley.  Bill graduated from Corydon High School and attended Indiana University.  In 1960 he enlisted and served in the United States Navy until 1962.

Bill was a member of the V.F.W. Post #2950 in Corydon.  He was an avid sports fan.  He loved IU basketball and Corydon High School sports, and he was often found at the Corydon High School football and basketball games.  He enjoyed taking communion to the residents of several local nursing homes and was also a member of St. Joseph’s Bible Study group where he made many great friends.

Bill worked for 27 years at the United States Postal Service in Washington DC and Cincinnati, Ohio.  After an early retirement, he worked 13 years in the mail room at Humana, Inc. in Louisville, Kentucky.

Bill loved spending time with his beloved dogs, Nikki and Chrissy, and going to the Boat.  In his 70’s, Bill made a life-long dream come true when he made a pilgrimage to Rome, Italy and the Vatican.

Bill loved his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family, eating cheesecake and playing Euchre.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two sisters, Jeane (King), and Mary and a brother, Richard.  He is survived by his daughter, Stacey Christley (Carmen Kruer); his four grandchildren, Loren Christley-Kruer Llyridan (Rhiannon Sheridan), Tina, James, and Jasmine Christley-Kruer; and one great granddaughter Alanna.  

His funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon.  Father Aaron Pfaff will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Corydon.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday and after 9:00 a.m. Friday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
