Vaughn K. Timberlake Obituary

Vaughn K. Timberlake, 79, of Corydon, passed away peacefully Friday, July 23, 2021, at his home near Corydon, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born August 28, 1941, in Mauckport, Indiana, to the late Burrel and Mary Yeager Timberlake. 

 

He was a retired financial advisor and former executive vice president with First Savings Bank Inc., was a founder and former president and CEO of Peoples Trust Bank Co., was a former chairman of the board of Peoples Trust Bank Co. and Community First Bank, was a former senior vice president and group manager of human resources for First National Bank of Louisville/FKNC, and was a retired Lt. Col. In the United Sates Army and veteran of the Vietnam War where he served as scout and recon helicopter pilot. 

 

Vaughn was a member of Old Capitol United Methodist Church in Corydon, the Corydon Sportsman Club, V.F.W. Post 2950 in Corydon, Wounded Warrior Project, Vietnam Veterans of America, Vietnam Veterans Helicopter Pilot Association, American Bankers Association, and Indiana Bankers Association.  He was a 1959 graduate of Corydon Central High School, a graduate of the University of Kentucky and was a distinguished military graduate.  He was currently a trustee at Harrison County Hospital, was a former director and past president of the Chamber of Commerce of Harrison County, was a former member and executive committee member of Blue River Services Inc., was a former chairman of the ABA Human Resources Executive Committee, was a former member of the ABA Banking Professions Council, was a former member of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Merit Board, was a former chairman of the Harrison County Public/Private Economics Development Committee, was a former campaign chair and advisory board member for Metro United Way, and was a former member of the Corydon Rotary Club and the Harrison County Cattlemen’s Association.

 

More than anything, Vaughn enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, reading, gardening and spending time with his family.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his father in law, Arthur G. Sloan, Jr.

 

Survivors include his wife, Linda S. Mattingly Timberlake; his son, Chris Timberlake (Julie) of Crandall, Indiana; his daughters, Leah Bensing (Troy) of New Albany, Indiana, Stephanie Farmer of Dale, Indiana, and Jennifer Mitchell of Louisville; his brother, Terry Timberlake (Carrie Sue) of Elizabeth, Indiana; his sister, Sharon Shewmaker (Melvin) of Corydon; his mother in law, Amy Sloan of Corydon; his grandchildren, Ryan Robison (Kaitlin), Logan Bensing, Sadie and Lilly Mitchell, and Ben and Alexa Timberlake; and his great grandson, Kameron Robison.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.  Rev. Andy Hansen will officiate.  Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.

 

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
