Vanda Lou Stark, 74, of Lanesville, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2024, at her home near Lanesville with her family by her side.
Vanda was born August 19, 1949, in Hardinsburg, Indiana, to the late John and Dorothy Witten Saltz. She was one of seven children, and as a young girl, she loved learning to sew, crafting, and cooking and baking with her grandmother, Stella Saltz.
Vanda married David Herman Stark on June 24, 1967 and they were married for 57 years. Vanda and David were blessed with two children, a daughter, Marci Jo and a son, David Patrick “Pat”.
Vanda was an active member of her church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville. She volunteered her time, along with her husband, for many years at the annual church picnic and loved making the dressing for everyone to enjoy.
Vanda also volunteered, along with her best friend, Margaret, at Guerin Woods Retirement Home. She loved visiting with the patients, talking, playing games, calling BINGO, and celebrating birthdays, because they were not just patients to her, but friends as close as family.
Vanda was preceded in death by her parents; and her two brothers, Joseph Franklin Saltz and Marion Nelson Saltz, Private First Class, Vietnam Veteran.
She is survived by her husband, David; her children, Marci Jo Warren (Robin) and Patrick Stark (Jessica); her grandchildren, Austin Farnsley and Lauren Albin (Brandon); her great grandchild, Aubrey Jo Albin; her siblings, Joyce Randles (Eaton), Wanda Dubois (Pete), Terry Saltz (Sandy), and Sondra Joseph (Jeff); her best friend who was like a sister to her, Margaret Pickerell, who was by her side lovingly taking care of her like family until the end; and lastly, her faithful dog companion, Mitsy.
Her funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville. Father Kyle Rodden will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Pallbearers will be Gary Wolfe, Jerry Wolfe, Austin Farnsley, Brandon Albin, Charles Stark and Clayton Stark.
