Steven K. Smith, 81, of Lanesville, died Sunday, December 17, 2023, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana. He was born April 5, 1942, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Kenneth Lee and Addie Mae Schoen Smith. He was retired from Borden Chemical in Louisville, was formerly employed with Catalyst Chemical in Louisville and in the fishing department at Bass Pro Shops in Clarksville, Indiana, and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church near Lanesville. Steve loved fishing, reading books, NASCAR (especially Dale Earnhardt), and watching his children and grandchildren play ball. He was an avid Lanesville Highs School supporter, where he was often involved with field maintenance or working concessions.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kendall Smith; and his great granddaughter, Caraline Barr.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Carol L. Hussung Smith; his sons, Sean Smith (Alison) of Floyds Knobs, Indiana and Travis Smith (Brianne) of Corydon; his daughters, Lori Acton (Kenny) of Lanesville, Terri Brown (Mike) of Georgetown, Indiana, and Mitzi Mills of Lanesville; his sister, Candis Hahn (Jerry) of Louisville; his grandchildren, Shelby Barr (David), Kenton Acton (Kate), Adam Brown (Megan), Austin Brown (Caroline), Taylor Brown (Parker), Bailey Smith, Riley Smith (Matthew), Kayla Smith (Da’Ron), Dakota Mills (Mary), Carter Smith (Quin), and Addison Smith; and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 22, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Lanesville. Pastor Mark Carnahan will officiate. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon, and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Adam Brown, Austin Brown, Kenton Acton, Dakota Mills, Carter Smith, and David Barr.
