Ronald Lewis Owens, 77, of Corydon, died Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Indian Creek Healthcare Center in Corydon. He was born March 9, 1946, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to the late Walter Owens and Ruth Lewis Hazel. After attending high school in Woodbridge, Virginia, Ronald served in the U.S. Army for 24 years. He lived and traveled widely, living in Ethiopia as a young man. He attended high school there and worked part time at the Officer’s Club in the base where his stepfather, Ernie Hazel, was stationed. While there, he was able to travel to Egypt, Israel and Jordan. He retired from DuPont in Louisville, Kentucky, where he worked for 33 years. With his wife, Sherry, he owned and operated Jewel Mist Arabian farm. He enjoyed all animals and enjoyed watching the wildlife. Of all the jobs he had, he said that working at Squire Boone Caverns was the most enjoyable. He was impressed by the children that he guided through the caves. He was a member of the American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post 28 and the V.F.W. Post 1693 both in New Albany, Indiana, the Masonic Lodge in Radcliff, Kentucky, and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry A. Pike Owens; his daughter, Amy Forsythe of Louisville; his sister, Judy Eldridge (Marvin) of Lawrence, Kansas; and his niece, Carry Baecht of Lawrence.
There will be a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2023, at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, Kentucky.
Visitation will be from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
