Richard Amel Short Obituary

Richard Amel Short, 57, of Corydon, died Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana.  He was born May 31, 1965 at Fort Knox, Kentucky.  He was formerly employed with Bush Trucking in New Salisbury and was a beloved “member of the family” at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.

Rick, AKA “Shorty” was a one in a million kinda guy with a huge heart to help other people. He never met a stranger and was loved by so many. He was a lover of all things speed. He was an avid fisherman, gun collector, Hog rider, furry friend lover, family man, and friend. He always knew how to make nothing into something, and could often be found making himself the life of the party. He was witty with a big soul and he loved Rock & Roll and Bluegrass. He left a mark on the people he met and it was hard to forget him. He had the biggest will to make things happen for himself and the people he loved. Papaw Rick loved his kids and grandkids and they were the light of his life. He never missed a moment to let people know either. The past ten years you could find him making memories with his loving companion and confidant, Grandy, and all their fur babies.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Gene Singleton Short; and his nephew, Wyatt Davison.

Survivors include his father, Billy Jack Short of Corydon; his daughters, Courtney Short (Justin) of Valdosta, Georgia and Shelby Rhodes (Dylan) of Elizabeth, Indiana; his sister, Melissa Cesar (Chad) of Corydon; his loving companion of 10 years, Andrea “Andy” Karem of New Albany; and his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Henry and Lainey.

There will be a celebration of Rick’s life from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.  Immediately following the celebration of life, the family would like to invite you to a final motorcycle ride around Corydon with Rick.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, Texas 75284-0692 or at https://www.heart.org/.
