Rev. Greg Carter Obituary

Rev. Greg Carter, 72, of Laconia, died Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at his home near Laconia. He was born January 27, 1952, to the late Ned and Bonnie (Bartley) Carter. After graduating from South Central High School, Greg attended Ball State University, where he graduated with a degree in Education and Journalism. After teaching, coaching, and serving as a campus minister in Muncie, Indiana, Greg and his wife, Ronda, moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where he taught and coached at Evangel Christian School. In the summer of the late 1970’s, Greg pitched a tent in the 4-way of Laconia, his hometown, to host a revival, which spurred the creation of Grace Tabernacle Assemblies of God. During this same time, he taught, coached, and was a guidance counselor at South Central High School. As the church grew in the early 1980’s, he went full time into ministry. From this point forward, Greg dedicated his life to the community and people of Laconia. During his time in the ministry, Greg traveled many times as a missionary to Central America, Cuba, Africa, and Eastern Europe. Greg pioneered a Christian school for 25 years, hosted a Christian television show, authored the book, “Survivor”, served as the longest acting Executive Presbyter for the Assemblies of God in Indiana, planted two sister churches in Cuba and in Milltown, Indiana, and served in support of 5 drug rehabilitation houses in Harrison County. Due to Greg’s commitment to God’s calling on his life to serve the surrounding communities of Laconia, he became the longest serving pastor of the same church in the state of Indiana, serving Grace Tabernacle for 45 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Ned and Bonnie (Bartley) Carter.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ronda Hornickel Carter; daughter Kelly Carter; son Dane Carter (Wendy); sisters Marcia Brown (Gary), and Terry Stewart (Rodney); grandson Cade Carter; granddaughters Maecy, Molly, and Marley Carter and eight nieces and nephews.
