Obituary

Polly Anna (Blackman) Weis, 90, of New Middletown, Indiana passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at the home of her daughter in Fort Wayne, IN.  Polly was born August 15, 1933 in Monmouth, IL to Roscoe H. and Mary F. (Wilson) Blackman. She graduated from Georgetown High School 1951 and on May 27,1955 she married Kenneth L. Weis   

 

Polly spent her married life raising a family and farming with her husband in New Middletown, IN.  Polly took an active role in tending to the farm animals and field work in addition to housework and raising a large garden.  Over time as the farm grew, spring planting and fall harvest would find Polly preparing and catering hot meals to the field every day for ‘picnic dinners’.  Polly was an active member St. Peters Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Bible School teacher, Luther League Sponsor, and member of the LCW.   She also volunteered at the Corydon blood bank, drove a school bus, and prepared and served food for the New Middletown Fire Department Chicken Dinner fundraisers. 

 

Ever the loving and nurturing soul, following her parents death Polly was a caregiver for her brother Melvin for nearly 25 years.

 

Polly is survived by her children Lorraine (Bryan) Mussatti of Fort Wayne IN, Rhonda (Arden) Smith of Lowell IN, Wendell Scott Weis and Jennifer (Tim) Lattire of Elizabeth IN,  grandchildren  Sarah (Kyle) Olson, Beloit WI, Steve (Amy) Smith, Columbus IN, Scott Smith, Lowell IN, Jenna (Michael) Clark, Corydon IN, Lori (Adam) Stroud, Marengo IN, Brian Weis, Corydon IN, and Sam (Kelly) Weis, North Salem IN, and  13 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are her siblings, Patricia Sue Reeves and John Blackman, many nieces and nephews, very special friends and neighbors, Danny and Missi McPhillips, Perry “Buster” Kellams and Brother-in-law, Eldon Bickel.

 

Preceding her in death was her husband, her parents, and siblings Clairetta Bickel, Melvin Blackman, Jim Blackman and Peggy Tidwell.

 

Visitation and Celebration of life will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 655 St. Peters Church Road SE, Corydon, IN with funeral service to follow at 12:00 noon. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the church.

 

The family expresses a heartfelt thank-you to Dee, Polly’s private care assistant and to Asia and the Southern Care Hospice team for their compassion and care over the past 4 months. 

 

Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon will be in charge of arrangements.
