Pastor Gary W. Decker, 72, of Laconia, Indiana, died Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at his home near Laconia. He was born October 20, 1953 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a member of over 40 years, associate pastor and pastor of Grace Tabernacle Church near Laconia, was a founder of the Butterfly Transformation Houses, was a chaplain for the Harrison County Jail, was retired from the Ford Motor Company Kentuckiana Truck Plant in Louisville after 30 years, and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Gary had the kindest heart and loved his family and especially his grandchildren dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Decker and Nina Carter Brengman; his brother, Damon; and his sisters, Betty, Phyllis and Pat.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary Elizabeth Boris Decker; his sons, David Decker (Kat), Chris Decker (Nicole), Matt Decker (Rebekah), Brent Decker (Hannah) and Jaren Decker (Katie); his daughter, Dana Stapp (Roger); his brothers, Dale and Raymond; his sisters, Nadine, Martha and Shirley; 23 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Grace Tabernacle Church near Laconia. Chris Combs and Jaren Decker will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery near Laconia.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Pallbearers will be David, Chris, Matt, Brent and Jaren Decker, and Dana Stapp.
