Nora M. Barnes Obituary

Nora M. Barnes, 96, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky, died Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana.  She was born December 1, 1927, in Louisville, to the late Willie and Marie Cobble Riggs.

 

She was a native of Jefferson County and was a dedicated and loving wife of 52 years before losing her beloved husband, Granvil.  She was an amazing mother and grandmother.  She was the backbone of her immense family of 10 children, 29 grandchildren, and 57 great-grandchildren.  She was a strong Christian woman who instilled the love of God into each and every one of her family members.  She led by example everyday of her life.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Granvil C. Barnes; her sons, Johnny C. and William D. Barnes; her grandchildren, Kimberly Sillings, Matthew Stuart and Daron Wiseman; her brothers, Junior, James, Clarence, Marvin and Ervin Riggs; and her sisters, Doris Ann Mayfield and Norma Jean Lyons.

 

She is survived by her two sons, Thomas Barnes (Pam) and Mark Barnes (Becky); her six daughters, Sharon Barnes (Merrill), Shirley Wiseman (Carl), Mary Stuart (Tim), Ruth Case, Naomi Sillings (Ben), and Sarah Stuart (Donald); and her brother, Larry Riggs.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.  Rev. Mark Arnett will officiate.  Burial will be in South Jefferson Cemetery in Louisville.

 

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday and after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

Pallbearers will be Billy Barnes, Merrill Wiseman, Ricky Case, Timothy Stuart, Benjamin Sillings, and Bobby Stuart.  Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Barnes and Mark Barnes.
