Nelson M. Stevens, 87, of Hammond, Indiana, formerly of Elizabeth, Indiana, died Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana. He was born February 15, 1937, in Harrison County, Indiana, to the late Lawrence and Mellie Lohmeyer Stevens. He was retired from Inland Steel Company in East Chicago, Indiana, was a member of the United Steel Workers Union, and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son in law, Robert Ralph; his sisters, Yvonne Pease, Wanda Maxine LaDuke and her husband, Carl, and Bonnie Dennison and her husband, Roy; his brothers in law, Burl Hoke and Richard Keinsley; his sister in law, Ella Frances Stevens; his nephew, Larry David Pease, Jr.; and his brother, Arthur William Stevens.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie L. McCullum Stevens; his son, Donald Stevens; his daughter, Karen Ralph; his grandchildren, Kristin Mathias (Nick), Anthony Ralph, Kelly Ralph, and Sara Stevens; many great grandchildren; his brothers, Floyd Stevens (Mary Rose) and Albert Stevens (Brenda); his sisters, Alice Hoke, Roberta McRae (Jim), Linda Faith (Ronnie), Eleanor Keinsley, Virginia Absher (Alvin), and Judy Schoen (Rodney); and his brother in law, David Pease.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2024, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon, Indiana. Pastor Jerry Bryant will officiate. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery near Laconia, Indiana.
Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Ralph, Paul Leon Mathis, J.R. Heinze, Sheldon Dennison, Jeff Pease, and Scott McCullum.
