Marion Lee (Alexander) Brown, 96, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Baptist Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. She was a native of Corydon, Indiana, born May 21, 1928 to the late Chester C. Alexander Sr. and Dorothy (Mitchem) Alexander.
She moved to New Albany, Indiana at an early age and graduated from New Albany Scribner High School, Class of 1946. She was a member of Bethel AME Church in New Albany for most of her 96 years. She retired from the Census Bureau in Jeffersonville, IN and developed lasting friendships with many coworkers. She loved watching sports on TV and was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds Baseball, Golden State Warriors Basketball, IU Basketball when they “won”, NAHS Boys’ Basketball, and Providence High School Football.
During her life she was a helpful daughter, a caring big sister to her two brothers, Chester Jr. and Robert, a devoted wife for 72 years to her late husband James “Avon” Brown, a loving mother to her three children, a joyful Grammie to her grandchildren and to many others who affectionately called her Grammie or Gram, an adoring Auntie, a good friend and a child of God. She was a blessing to all who loved her and she felt equally blessed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Avon; her oldest son, Roger; her brother, Chester Jr. (Mary); three brothers-in-law, Ronald, Archie, Larry (Lena); and four sisters-in-law, Effie, Lucy, Shirley and Becky.
She is survived by her son, Ricky Brown (Pam); her daughter, Rosalyn Brown; her brother, Robert Alexander all of New Albany; four grandchildren, Dale Harris Jr. (Patricia) of Clarksville, IN; Bethany Harris (Jerry Evans) of New Albany, IN; Erick Brown (Amy) of Maryland Heights, MO; and Erica (Twink) Naeger (Mike) of Florissant, MO; six great-grandchildren, Breanna Michl, Avon and Levi Brown, Gavin and Jacob Evans, and Halo Harris; son-in-law, Dale Harris Sr.; and sisters-in-law, Deborah White (Charles), Maxine Brown, Alease Rowe, and Joanne Alexander; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Marion requested cremation and a private burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon, Indiana. Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon, Indiana has been entrusted with the arrangements.
