Marcella Bays, 91, of Lanesville, Indiana, died Friday, October 10, 2025, at The Waters of Georgetown in Georgetown, Indiana.  She was born March 7, 1934 in Lanesville.  She was the clerk for the Town of Lanesville for 17 years, was formerly employed as an insurance agent for the Aid Association for Lutherans, was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church near Lanesville where she was also a member of the Martha Society for many years, and loved playing in local ladies card clubs.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orlin Lieber and Theodora Schoen Lieber Ovington; her husband, Eugene E. Bays; her brother, Dennis Lieber; and her sister, Wilma Jones.

 

Survivors include her sons, Jeffery N. Bays (Sharon), Philip D. Bays (Penny), and Gregory G. Bays (Stacy); her daughters, Kathleen E. Pate (Phillip) and Gayle D. Wernert (Mark); her sister, Elaine Rogers (Mike); 14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 2 great great granddaughters.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Lanesville.  Rev. Michael Terkula will officiate.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.

 

Pallbearers will be Brian Pate, Michael Bays, Jon Wernert, Ben Wernert, Daniel Wernert, and Isaac Wernert.
