Larry Morris Ray Obituary

Larry Morris Ray, 74, of Corydon, died Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Harrison Springs Health Campus in Corydon.  He was born October 15, 1948, in Lepanto, Arkansas, to the late Thomas Morris and Mary Isobell Reeves Ray.

 

Larry enlisted in the United States Army, in March of 1968, and attended Basic Training, Airborne Infantry Training, Airborne Jump School, Special Forces Training, and Radio Operator Training.  His primary duty was serving as a radio operator in the 5th and 6th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, until he was honorably discharged on April 1, 1971, as a noncommissioned officer at the rank of Sergeant.

 

He earned his Electronics Certificate from United Electronics Institute in Louisville, Kentucky, an Associate Degree in Management from Jefferson Community College, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from both the University of Kentucky and Indiana University.

 

Larry worked for the General Services Administration and the United States Military, but his last and most enjoyable work position was with the United States District Courts for 15 plus years, before his retirement in 2003 with 30 plus years of government service.

 

He was also a square dance caller, and with his wife Sharon, danced and called all over the USA, was a published photographer, a computer programmer, a webpage designer, a cookbook author for his grandson’s Boy Scout Troop, an AARP volunteer as a tax counselor and technical coordinator, and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Jerry and David Ray.

 

Survivors include his love, best friend and wife of over 32 years, Sharon Lee Griffin Ray; his sons, Bryan Larry Ray (Rachel) of Nabb, Indiana and Stephen Thomas Ray (Lynn) of Louisville; his grandchildren, Keven Michael Frances Ray (Sadie), Shaw Bryan Ray (Chelsea), Aloria Lee Ray, Isabella Briane Ray, Dorian Patrick Shelby Ray, and Lacey Elizabeth Pardue (Matthew); his great grandchildren, Arabella Rayne Pardue and Ryker Lawson Pardue; his brothers, Eugene Powers (Ineke) of Easley, South Carolina, Thomas Ray (Karen) of Lafayette, Indiana, and Ken Ray (Leslie) of Mossville, Illinois; his sisters, Neoma Cardin (Bill) of Metamora, Illinois and Vickie Blackford (Dave) of East Peoria, Illinois; and his sister in law, Linda Ray of Livermore, California.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.  Chaplain George Payocong will officiate.  Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.

 

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

 

Pallbearers will be Bryan Ray, Steve Ray, Shaw Ray, Dorian Ray, Bill Cardin, Ken Ray, Eugene Powers, and Tom Ray.
