Jewel Mae Cavins, 93, of Floyds Knobs, died Monday, September 13, 2021, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana. She was born January 23, 1928, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late John William and Rebecca J. Buckingham Riley. She was formerly employed at the South Side Inn in New Albany, at Huber’s Winery near Starlight, Indiana, and at the old Indiana Army Ammunition Bag Plant near Charlestown, Indiana, and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church near Starlight.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Lee Cavins; her son, Mark Cavins; her daughter, Frances Cavins; and her brother, Bob Riley.
Survivors include her son, John Cavins (Veronica) of Palmyra, Indiana; her daughters, Donna Buchanan (Steve) of New Albany, Theresa Barnes of Starlight, Ellen Bunch of Pekin, Indiana, Leisa Harris (Simon) of Fairdale, Kentucky, Gloria Cavins of New Albany, and Cheryl Cavins (Corlis Pellman) of Georgetown, Indiana; her brother, William W. Riley (Barbara) of New Middletown, Indiana; her sister, Margaret M. Riley of Elizabeth, Indiana; her sister in law, Velma Riley of Elizabeth; and many grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren.
Her funeral mass will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon. Father Kyle Rodden and Father Wilfred E. Day will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Corydon.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 10:00 a.m. Friday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Joe Barnes, Daniel Cavins, Chris Barnes, Ryan Cavins, Jaren Barnes, and Zach Cavins.
