Jean Claire (Spalding) Allen, 89, of Corydon died Sunday May 24, 2026 surrounded by family at her home near Corydon. She was born September 26, 1936 in Lebanon, Kentucky to her late parents Robert and Edwina Spalding. Jean attended the majority of her schooling at Mount Saint Joseph, class of 1955 in Owensboro, Ky where she had fond memories of those years and looked forward to the yearly class reunions to gather with classmates whom she remained close with over the years. She was a devout Catholic and was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon. She volunteered with the yearly church picnic to work in the kitchen and became affectionately known as the “Green Bean Queen”. She prayed the rosary daily and was a true prayer warrior. She had many jobs over the years that included a paper route, cleaning houses, babysitting, but by far the most remembered position was working at the Corydon Democrat where she retired from. Jean was a cancer survivor for 20 years and always participated in the yearly American Cancer Society walk activities. Her house was truly a home to all her family and friends. Anyone stopping in to visit was always greeted by an open door and something freshly cooked or baked. Home cooking was her specialty. Jean had a great sense of humor and her laugh was contagious. Elvis Presley, the only thing more synonymous with Jean Allen was her absolute love for the king of rock and roll. Everyone that came to know her over the years will confirm that she loved Elvis and Jesus. Jean was a very special person to all friends and family and she had such a unique light about her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Pat” Allen who she was married to for 51 years, her sisters Dolores, Dell, and Josie, her brothers Bobby and Bill, her son Ray, her daughter Cathy, her son-in-law Sarge, and her grandson Zach.
Survivors include her son John (Michele) Allen, her daughter Diane (Gary) Gravitt, her son Tony Allen, her daughter-in-law Karen Allen, grandchildren Matthew Powell, Grant (Jenna) Gravitt, Nick (Amanda) Allen, Cody (Julie) Allen, Kari (Zack) Allen, Corey Powell, Kayla (Daniel) Haas, Katie (Matt) Burns, Patrick Allen, Garrett Gravitt and Kelly Gravitt, her great grandchildren Clayton, Kylie, Emma, Laken, Parker, Massie, Josie, Luke, Kara, Adalyn, Benson, Barrett, Bonnie, Lincoln, and Amelia Jean; and her great-great-granddaughter, Berkleigh.
Her Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday May 29, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon. Father Kyle Rodden will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Corydon.
There will be a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, and after 9:00 a.m. Friday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
