Gurvis Eldon Byrd, Jr., 79, of Clarkson, Kentucky, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born June 10, 1935, in Big Bend, Kentucky, to the late Gurvis E. Byrd, Sr. and Lana Haycox Byrd. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Byrd.
Survivors include his daughters, Sandy Brunner (Ronnie) of Corydon, Debbie Wate (George) of West Union, South Carolina, and Paula Goins of Elizabeth, Indiana; his former wife, Martha Carver Byrd of Elizabeth; his sisters, Noma Ashworth of Louisville and Sherry Bean (Dairy) of Myrna, Nebraska; eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Rev. Webster Oglesby and Pastor Keith McWhorter will officiate. Burial will be in Leavenworth Memorial Gardens near Leavenworth, Indiana.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Rusty & Jarett Alcorn, Cody & Shane Bennett, Dee Wate, Michael Goins, Lester Martin, and Brian Aulby.
