George Ray Melton, 77, of Franklin, Indiana, died Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Franklin Meadows in Franklin.  He was born November 6, 1948, in Corydon, Indiana, to the late Raymond E. and Anna C. Montgomery Melton.  He was a self-employed car detailer for many years and was of the Christian faith.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 42 years, Sharon Ann Owen Melton; and his grandson, Rick Shireman.

 

Survivors include his son, George Melton (Laura); his daughter, Melissa Melton; his stepsons, Bill, Bobby and Troy Burns; his stepdaughters, Margaret Ann Davis and Linda Shireman; his brothers, Charlie Melton (Angie) and Larry Melton (Debbie); his sisters, Fern Reas and Carol Reed; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.  Chyrell Whitmire will officiate.  Burial will be in Pennington Chapel Cemetery near Corydon.

 

Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

 

Pallbearers will be Michael Green, John Allen, Amanda Dupuis, Nathan Burns, James Davis and Angie Melton.

 

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the Pennington Chapel Cemetery Fund.
