Obituary

George D. Mayberry, Jr., 77, of Childersburg, Alabama, formerly of Elizabeth, Indiana, died Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Ascension St. Vincent’s East in Birmingham, Alabama.  He was born March 1, 1946, in Myrtle, West Virginia.  He was a small business owner and entrepreneur and was the founder of Annie’s Pizza in Louisville.

 

He was preceded in death by his father and step mother, George D. Mayberry, Sr. and Marie Mayberry; his mother, Annie Dempsey; his brother, Terry Mayberry; his sister, Karen Dismore; and his grandmother who raised him, Hazel Taylor.

 

Survivors include his wife, Ruby G. Surrett Mayberry; his former wife, Lois Mayberry of Elizabeth and their children, Kenneth Wayne Mayberry (Maria) of Elizabeth - their children, Benjamin Mayberry, Tyler Mayberry and Anthony Mayberry and their grandchildren, Jackson Mayberry, Waverly Mayberry, Clayton Mayberry, Brynley Mayberry, Ashlyn Burk, Brayden Meredith and Kadence Meredith, Sandra Abale (Mayberry) (Gemini) of Louisville – their children, Gemma Wink and Connor Wink , Jennifer Cline (Mayberry) (Scott) of Louisville – their child, Finn Cline, and Niles Charlet (Josh) of Louisville – their child, Chloe Charlet; his former wife, Jan Thompson of Eddyville, Kentucky and their son, George Curtis Mayberry (Jennifer) of Eddyville – their children, Jacob Mayberry, Lucas Mayberry and Ethan Mayberry; his step children, Kathy Mottern (D.J.) of Shelby, Alabama, Myron Shaul (Sharon) of Wilsonville, Alabama, and Tammara Shaul of Jeffersonville, Indiana; his brother, Donald E. Mayberry of Elizabeth; his sisters, Catherine Spence of Elizabeth, Sandina Mayberry of California, and Mildred Holz of Portsmouth, Ohio; 12 step grandchildren and many step great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.  Deacon Danice Spence Loveridge will officiate.  Burial will be in the Mayberry Family Cemetery near Elizabeth.

 

Visitation will be after 12:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

 

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to your favorite animal rescue.

 

Pallbearers will be Myron Shaul, Gemini Wink, Tyler Mayberry, Ben Mayberry, Scott Rodgers, and Curtis Mayberry.
