Eldon Lewis Bickel, 94, of Corydon, died Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Todd-Dickey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Leavenworth, Indiana. He was born December 22, 1929, in Harrison County, Indiana, to the late Willard and Alma Louise Gleitz Bickel. He was a farmer, was a retired truck driver at Smith Transfer in Louisville, Kentucky, was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church near Corydon and attended God’s Church in Corydon, loved attending the annual Lanesville Heritage Weekend, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War era.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clairetta E. Blackman Bickel; his sons, Carl Lynn Bickell and Jason Bickel; and his brother, Allen F. Bickel.
Survivors include his sons, Carl Lewis Bickel, Eldon Leroy Bickel (Tammy), Bentley Charles Bickel, and Bradley Gene Bickel all of New Middletown, Indiana; his daughter, Kitty Sue Ellis (“H.”) of Greenville, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Pastor David Ledger will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery near Corydon.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Friday and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Gleitz, Perry Gleitz, Danny McPhillips, Dale Walther, Gary Bickel and Tim Lattire.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the New Middletown Volunteer Fire Department.
