Edgar R. Baumgart

Edgar R. Baumgart, 96, of Lanesville, Indiana, died Tuesday, October 31, 2023.  He was born May 20, 1927, in Lanesville, to the late Irvin and Hazel Zollman Baumgart.  He was a retired Lutheran elementary school teacher at Redeemer Lutheran School and Martin Luther Lutheran School both in Louisville, Kentucky and at St. John’s Lutheran School in Lanesville, was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lanesville and was a U. S. Navy veteran of WWII.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elaine Marie Leaf Baumgart; his son, Bill Baumgart; his brother, Gerald "Bummy" Baumgart; and his sister, Margaret Gunther.

Survivors include his son, Bob Baumgart (Kitty); his daughter in law, Karen Baumgart; his grandchildren, Gretchen James, Greta Schneider (Kiel), Greg Baumgart (Sheree), Grant Baumgart, Russell Baumgart, Daniel Baumgart (Jo) and Angela Sellers; many great grandchildren; his brother, Willis “Hook” Baumgart; and his sister, Saundra Conrad (Forrest). 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Lanesville.  Pastor Mark Carnahan will officiate.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Monday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. 

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to St. John’s Lutheran School.

Pallbearers will be Greg, Grant, Russell and Daniel Baumgart, Kiel Schneider and Gretchen James.
