Douglas Jackson Obituary

Douglas “Doug” Barton Jackson, 74, passed away peacefully at his home, in Laconia, Indiana, surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 5, 2023.

He was born August 15, 1948, in Richmond, Indiana to Carl and Martha Reams Jackson but would spend most of his childhood growing up in Richmond, Kentucky.

Doug joined the Air Force in 1968 and retired in 1988, as a Master Sergeant, while living in Blytheville, Arkansas.  He proudly served his country for twenty years, which included three tours in Vietnam.  After retiring from the military, he moved to Louisville, Kentucky and worked at the VA Hospital for seventeen years until his retirement.

He was an avid gun collector, which is something he enjoyed sharing with his sons.  He was also a lifelong member of the VFW.  He loved to travel with his wife and had visited every state except for Rhode Island. You could find Doug during the summer in his garden or on a lawnmower. After moving out to the country in Indiana, he took up a tractor hobby and spent most of his mornings telling stories at the Laconia General Store with his father in law and the local old timers. He was a member of Grace Tabernacle Church and loved his church family.  Doug will be remembered for his big heart, always giving or doing for others, especially his family, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Carl Barton Jackson; and brother, Harry Jackson.

Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Shelia Beanblossom Jackson; his two children, Paul Jackson (Stacy) of Louisville, Kentucky and Kurt Jackson (Mallory) of Louisville, Kentucky; his step-children, Stephanie Sanders (Chris) of Corydon, Jeremy Pate (Andrea) of Corydon, and Kim Jones (Chris) of Palmyra; his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Colin Jackson, Madelyn Jagodzinski (Joe), Alice and Jamison, Carly Jackson, Bryce Dawson, Brady Dawson, Deegan Pate, Waylon, Lucas, Esdon, Bennett & Abram Jones; his brother, Allen Jackson; and his sisters, Sondra Cates of Simpsonville, Kentucky and Betty Jean Campbell. Other special people to him were Chris and Storie Miller and Lexie and Taylen.

We are so thankful for all of the prayers, cards, visits, food and messages during these last difficult months.  We take comfort in knowing he is now at peace and resides with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
