Robert Allan James, 77, of Corydon, died Monday, January 1, 2018, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.  He was born November 6, 1940, in Cropper, Kentucky, to the late Marshall and Dorothy Blackabee James.  Robert was raised on a 100 acre farm and milked 15 cows by hand until he was out of high school.  He worked his way through college by selling bibles and dictionaries, where he had 7 men working under him for 7 summers, and in doing so, won trips to Rome, Italy, Spain and England.  He graduated from Morehead State College and taught art classes in schools for 10 years.  He held badges from Fire Departments, Police Departments, and as a security guard and a private investigator.  He worked as a manager at McDonald’s in Campbellsville.  He owned an insurance office in Corydon with the Woodmen Accident and Life Insurance Company, where David Jackson was his first secretary, and where Sister Sharon Paisley, Sister Becky Jensen, Brother Cledith Hockenburg and Brother Jimmy Smith worked, and he later sold insurance for several different companies.  He signed for Brother Kevin Jensen to become a United States citizen.  He worked at Sears selling siding for houses and at WalMart. He was a member of Faith Assembly Church in Clarksville, Indiana for 40 years, where he did art work for The Contender, and he has been to Israel 2 times. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ted Allan James; and his brother, Charlie James.

 

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Shirley Ann Ford James; his son, Robert Eugene “Bobby” James; his step son, Terry L. Curry; his step daughter, Rita Stocksdale (Skip); his sister, Janice McKinney; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Faith Assembly Church, 1715 Old Potter’s Lane, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47129.  Brother James Allen and Brother Kevin Crase will officiate.  Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.

 

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon, and after 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the church.

 

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to Faith Assembly Church.

 

Pallbearers will be Bill Tuley, Mike Hamby, Jerry Maddox, Paul Elliss, Steve Yahraus, and Mark Allen.
