Patricia Cecilia Merk, 71, of Mauckport, died Monday, July 17, 2017, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. She was born March 18, 1946, in Joliet, Illinois, to the late Camden and Mary Vail Kent. She was a teacher, with her husband, of Natural Family Planning for many years, was employed with the Purdue University Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program to provide nutrition for low income families, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon, where she was also a member of the resurrection choir, and was a member of the National Council of Catholic Women and the Mauckport Club of Harrison County Extension Homemakers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ida Farley; and her brother, Andrew Kent.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Merk; her son, Brendan Paul Merk (Miranda Todd) of New Albany, Indiana; her daughters, Joy Marie Polk of Indianapolis, Indiana and Malia Louise Glotzbach (Bryan) of New Albany; her grandchildren, Caroline and Nathan Merk, Emma and Jackson Todd, and Gabriel Glotzbach; her brothers, Joseph Kent (Mary Lou) of Illinois and Camden Kent, Jr. (Anne) of Alabama; and her sisters, Beth Hatzitheorodorou (Manny) of Florida, Andrea Nester of Florida, and Mary Ann Collins (Michael) of Pennsylvania.
Her funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon. Father Robert Hankee will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Mauckport.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, 12:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 9:00 a.m. Friday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
There will be a rosary service at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Brendan Merk, Bryan Glotzbach, Camden Kent, Jr., Clarence Merk, Jr., John Timberlake, and Montie Ritchie.
