Nellie M. Wheat

Nellie M. Wheat, 93, died Monday, February 25, 2019, at her home in Lakeland, Florida.  She was born March 29, 1925, in Harrison County, Indiana, to the late John W. and Mary Charlotte Bickel Mathes.  Nellie graduated from Corydon High School in 1944 and was a retired hairdresser.  She married Frank Wheat, Jr. on August 11, 1946 and they shared 61 wonderful years together before his passing in 2007. She was a native of Corydon and had lived in Lakeland since July 2009. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Alice Bussabarger, Catherine Stoner, Clara Barrow and Helen Krantz; and her brothers, Clem, Carl, George and William Mathes.

Survivors include her daughter, Pam Luther; her grandchildren, Christopher Spurlock and Alexander Luther; and her brothers, John W. Mathes and Harlan Mathes.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.  Pastor Rob Pryor will officiate.  Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.

Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to Heidelberg United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be Chris Spurlock, Eldon LaHue, John Eisenmenger, Rick Utz, Loran Mathes and David Mathes.  Honorary pallbearers will be Steve McAfee, Buck Mathes, Carol Windell, Frances Mathes and Diana Dicus.
