Frank W. Mackison

Frank Weaver Mackison (90), Rockville, MD. Passed away on Tuesday April 10th 2018 in Rockville, MD.  Born September 9, 1927 in New Albany, IN.  He was the son of Weaver S. and Lou (Lohmeyer) Mackison.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Garnet Waneka (Breeden) Mackison, Sister Leola Neideffer, Loogootee, IN and 3 brothers, Stuart Mackison, Mesa, AZ, Richard Mackison, Shoals, IN & Verelle Mackison, Brandy Station, VA.

He is survived by 3 sons; Stephen W Mackison, Woodbine, MD, Scott R Mackison, Frederick, MD & Michael A Mackison, Rockville, MD. Daughters-in-law Gale R Mackison & Corey J Mackison and 4 grandchildren, Graham, Riley, Kendal and Grady.

Frank served 3 years in the U.S. Navy prior to starting his college education and then had a distinguished career in the Commissioned Corp of The U.S. Public Health Service, retiring his commission in 1991 with the rank of Captain. He continued on to serve as a Civil Servant with the FDA until his ultimate retirement, in 2007, after a total of 43 years with the Federal Government. He graduated from Indiana University/Bloomington with a B.S. in Public Health and University of California/Berkeley with a M.S. in Public Health.

Faith and building a strong worship community brought great joy to Frank throughout his life. Frank & Waneka were long-term members of Rockville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rockville, MD, where Frank served as an Elder. His commitment to growing the community of faith extended to administrative board positions among the church and community partners, including the neighboring Rockville Nursing Home and local Bethany House senior living community. For many years, Frank made the long drive to Bethany Beach, DE, where he fueled his energy through working with fellow Disciples of Christ members to build a robust retreat and community.

Graveside service will be held at New Amsterdam Cemetery in New Amsterdam, IN at 2:00 on Saturday April 21, 2018.  Reception to follow at New Amsterdam United Methodist Church.
