Catherine Jane Whitis

Catherine Jane Whitis, 98, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2019, at Cedar Court in

Corydon, Indiana.  Jane was born on August 5, 1920 in Indianapolis, Indiana to parents Merle G.

Harris and Bessie Jane Lloyd Harris.  Before moving to Corydon, she lived in Elizabeth, Pittsboro and Indianapolis.

Jane attended Indiana Academy, Andrews University, Indiana University Southeast with her sons, and graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 1968 with her sons. She was an administrative assistant for her husband’s addressing machine business, and a second grade teacher at Elizabeth Grade School until her retirement.  She was a member of the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, Indiana Farm Bureau and New Albany Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lloyd Harris and Dr. Merle G. Harris, Jr., and her husband, James Arthur Whitis.

Survivors include her sons, James L. Whitis (Nancy Srb Lowry) of San Antonio, Texas and Harris Lloyd Whitis (Sally) of Laconia; her daughter, Janine G. Whitis of Louisville; her brother, John Monroe Harris of Needham, Indiana; her grandchildren, Kyle Whitis, Christopher Whitis, Sarah Dougherty, Trent Whitis and Paige Whitis; and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 6:00 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2019, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.  Pastor Eric Freking will officiate.

Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
