Ronald Lee Conrad Obituary

Ronald Lee Conrad, 72, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, IN. Ronnie was born January 23, 1952, to Charles and Bernice (Barksdale) Conrad. He and his wife Rita Diann Conrad (Wiseman) were married on August 5, 1977, in Corydon, IN. They had one daughter, Jenny Dumey (Kyle), of Corydon. Ronnie was lovingly known as “papaw” by his 2 granddaughters, Maddison and Molly Franks of Corydon. He also leaves behind his loyal canine companion “Dudley.” He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Elmer and Edna (Miller) Conrad, Charles and Augusta (Woertz) Barksdale, and brother, Donald. 

 

Ronnie was a lifelong harness horseman beginning his racing career at 16-years old training under his grandfather, Elmer. Ronnie was well known in the racing community for founding Conrad Stables. He was an owner, trainer, and driver for 46 years, retiring in 2012.

 

Ronnie was also an over the road truck driver and drove locally for Sanders Sawmill. Recently during retirement, Ronnie became a cashier at Dollar Tree in Corydon, IN where he enjoyed his work socializing with his co-workers and the patrons that visited the store.

 

In his free time, Ronnie could be found watching his granddaughters in their many sporting events, working in his garden, and riding his scooter around the streets of Corydon. Ronnie was known for being a people person and loved to socialize with everyone. He was always one to crack a joke and known for living life to the fullest!

 

Friends and family are invited to share their memories of Ronnie during visitation on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 3pm-8pm at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon, IN.
