Mary D. Churchill Obituary

Mary Davidson Churchill, 95, died on March 19, 2024 at Taylor Manor Nursing Home in Versailles, Kentucky.  Mary was born on March 10, 1929 to Colvin W. and Elsie Rosenbarger Davidson.  She spent most of her life in Corydon although she and her family lived in Irvington, Kentucky for over 30 years.

In 1947 she married L. Kendall Churchill who was to be her husband for 60 years.  He preceded her in death as did her parents and her brothers, James and John Davidson of Corydon, and William Davidson of New Albany.

She is survived by her children; John K. and Joy Churchill of Florence, KY, Anne and Darrell Crawford of Auburn, KY, Ruth and Lannie McCoy of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Sue Churchill and John Wilhoit of Versailles, KY.  Also surviving are ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

While living in Irvington, Mrs. Churchill worked for twelve years as a substitute teacher and teacher’s aide at the Irvington Elementary school. She also worked for the Parent Child Center of the Breckinridge-Grayson Head Start program, and was Irvington City Clerk for five years. She was active in the Irvington United Methodist Church as Sunday school teacher, and leader of the United Methodist Women. She also served one year as President of the PTA.

In 1983 the Churchills moved back to Corydon.  They became members of the Old Capitol United Methodist Church where she once again taught Sunday school and was a leader in the UMW.  Mary loved music and was a strong supporter of both civil and women’s rights.  In 1999, she received her long- delayed bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Southeast.

Funeral services will be held at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon at noon on Saturday, March 23, with visitation before the service from 10 to 12.  Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
