Violet Marie Jacobs Herd, 88, of Mauckport, died Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.  She was born May 17, 1928, in Mauckport, to the late John and Vada Lopp Carver.  She was retired from Harrison County Hospital and Walmart both in Corydon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Herd; her brothers, Franklin, Paul, Kelso and Elmer Carver; her sisters, Inez Kingsley and Fern Faith; and her son-in-law, Jasper "Jay" Gayhart.

Survivors include her sons, Charles Dale Jacobs (Judy) of Georgetown, Indiana, Robert A. Jacobs (Donna) of Corydon and David Curtis Jacobs (Vickie) of Central; her daughters, Joyce A. Gayhart of Ramsey and Rhonda D. Carver (Bobby) of Mauckport; 2 step sons; 1 step daughter; her sister, Bonnie Wiseman of Mauckport; 7 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.  Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Mauckport.

Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the James Graham Brown Cancer Center or Gentiva Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Maverick and Noah Shircliff, Rob Jacobs, Tristen Sneed, Michael Davis and Bradlee Craig.
