Robert O. Walter, 89, of Meadville, Pennsylvania, passed away, Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home.  He was born on November 24, 1927, in Corydon, Indiana, a son of Frank Walter and Merle Stonecipher Walter.  He married Belva Carrick on May 19, 1952.  She preceded him in passing on July 16, 2013.

 

He was a graduate of Corydon High School and he also graduated from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana with a degree in Engineering.

 

Robert served his country with the US Coast Guard near the end of World War II.

 

Following college Robert began his employment at the Erie Lackawanna Railroad where he had his first retirement in 1975, as the head of maintenance and way.  He was then employed by the Canron Rail Group, out of Columbia, South Carolina, where he was the US sales manager.  He later left that position to work for Allegheny Rail Products, out of Pittsburgh, until his final retirement in the early 1990s.

 

Robert was a member of Old Capitol United Methodist Church.

 

He was a member of Evening Star #44 Masonic Lodge in Hornell, New York and was member of the American Railway Engineering Association.

 

Robert enjoyed traveling with his wife to Arizona, hunting, wood working, making clocks, furniture, and lamps, making award winning wine, and fishing trips with his buddies.

 

He is survived by a daughter, Sandy Peake of Meadville; a son, Robert G. Keller of Cochranton; five grandchildren, Elaina Peake of Yuma, Arizona, Jenica Peake of Jacksonville, Florida, Nyssa Curley and her husband Patrick of Guys Mills, Robert Keller, Jr. of Union City, and Melissa Runninger of Meadville; two great grandchildren, Amber and Shelby Keller of Meadville; a niece, Lois Jean Vogt and her husband Walter of Corydon, Indiana; and many other nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his loving wife, Belva, he was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Thelma G. Turner, Anna Lee Crosier, and Leola Grable; and three brothers, Harold, Charles, and Carl Walter all of Corydon, Indiana.

 

Family and friends are welcome to call on Tuesday, April 18th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Ryan M. Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  There will be additional calling hours on Friday, April 21st from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, April 22nd 10:00am to 11:00am at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home, 201 N. Oak Street, Corydon, Indiana.  There will be a funeral service held at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home on Saturday, April 22nd at 11:00am with Reverend Andy Hansen from Old Capitol United Methodist Church officiating.

 

Burial will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Corydon, Indiana.

 

Pallbearers will be Patrick Curley, Frank Crosier, John Walter, Erin Walter, James Walter, Jr., and Jason Walter.
