Mary Elizabeth (Brubaker) Sides

Mary Elizabeth Brubaker Sides, 81, entered into eternal peace with Jesus on November 24, 2017, after a long illness. Mary was born in Mt. Joy, PA, to Arthur H. and Ethel K. Mumma Brubaker on January 12, 1936. She trained as a registered nurse at Lancaster General Hospital and enjoyed many years of providing nursing care to countless patients. A lifelong member of the Brethren in Christ Church, she most recently attended the Lanesville, IN, United Methodist Church.
Mary married S. Paul Sides on September 14, 1957. The couple served with Brethren in Christ World Missions in several short-term missions assignments: Navajo Mission, NM; Paxton Street Home, PA; and Youngways Guest House, Zimbabwe.
Mary is survived by her husband, four children: Shari Steager (Dwayne) Millersville, PA; Steven (Kathryn) Vine Grove, KY; Judy (Wayne Ritchie) Lancaster, PA; and Barbara Navarra (Vince) Louisville, KY; nine grandchildren: Daniel (Hana) Steager, Laura Steager, Aaron Steager, Joanna Sides, Rebekah Sides, Christopher Ritchie, Helena Ritchie, Elizabeth (Paul) Varnado, and Maria Navarra; three great-grandchildren: Emma, Anna and Sara Steager; and seven siblings: John Arthur Brubaker (Eva), Kenneth Brubaker (Audrey), Joyce Heisey (Lloyd), Ruth Hollander (Bruce), Levi Brubaker (Sandra), James Brubaker (Sue), and Robert Brubaker (Jean).
Mary will be remembered for her ability to bake delicious pies,
fluffy mashed potatoes, her quick laugh, lovely singing voice, her love of books, and gift of memorization. The family wishes to thank the many personal care assistants who gave gentle loving care to Mary for the past three years.
Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 27, 2017, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home, 201 North Oak Street, Corydon, Indiana 47112.
Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2017, at The Groffs Family Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., 528 West Orange Street, Lancaster, Pennsylvania 17603, and after 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Community Church of Willow Street, 212 Peach Bottom Road, Willow Street, Pennsylvania 17584. Burial will immediately follow the funeral services at Pequea Brethren in Christ Cemetery, 40 Church Road, Lancaster, Pennsylvania 17603.
