Jesse J. Saltsgaver Obituary

Jesse Jerome Saltsgaver, 81, was called home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 16, 2018.  He was born January 7, 1937 to Raymond and Esther Lahue Saltsgaver.

As a young man, Jesse served his country in the U.S. Army for 4 years, 3 of those years in Germany.  In 1958, Jesse met the love of his life, Rachel Phylis Sheckells.  They were wed June 6, 1958 and they built a life together for nearly 60 years.  In 1969, Jesse started a construction company on little more than hope and a prayer.  Jesse was a hard worker and a man of intense integrity and his dream is still going strong 49 years later, staffed by his children and grandchildren.  Jesse found the Lord in 1968 and has never wavered in his love for God.  Over the years, he has served faithfully in many capacities at his church.  He attended the Marengo Pilgrim Holiness Church at the time of his passing.  He loved reading his bible and teaching Sunday School and he led a life that was focused on his faith.  Jesse was a self taught musician who could play any instrument but loved to play his guitar and sing.  Jesse’s passion for hunting was matched only by his passion for fishing.  Jesse was a loving and caring man who loved to spend time with his family.  He was loved and cherished by many people and will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 60 years, Rachel; his children, David (Veneshia), Pam Langley (Barry), Timothy (Dawn), Nevin (Karen), and Jerry (Julie); his brothers, John, Bobby “Buck”, and Joe; his grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda, Jessica, Dustin, Wyatt, Nevin II, Andrew, Dylan, Jacob and Rachel; his great grandchildren, Timothy, Abby, Matthew, Jesse, Nicolas, Peyton, Emmalee, Jevan, Hudson, Carter, Haidlynn, and Aubrey; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his dog, Ginger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Raymond Jr..
