Gary F. Shewmaker, 73, of Corydon, died Sunday, June 11, 2017, at his home near Corydon.  He was born May 10, 1944, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Owen and Thelma Yeager Shewmaker.  He was a retired high school history teacher at North Harrison High School in Ramsey, Indiana, was a member of the Indiana State Teacher’s Association, and he attended the Lanesville United Methodist Mt. Zion Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Paul A. Shewmaker.

Survivors include his brother, Charles A. Shewmaker (Stella) of New Albany; his sister, Doris J. Tabor (Bill) of Corydon, 1 nephew; 3 nieces; and his caregivers, Bill Sheridan and Don Steiner.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.  Larry H. Johnson will officiate.  Burial will be in Tunnel Hill Cemetery in Edwardsville, Indiana.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the American Cancer Society.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Douds, Jason Douds, Sammy Hopper, Ronnie Shewmaker, Ernie Mayfield, and Chad Foster.
