Ernest Heishman, Jr., 86, of Corydon, died Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center in Corydon. He was born May 13, 1930, in Corydon, to the late Ernest Harvey and Bertha Dell Wolfe Heishman. He was an Army Veteran, who served in combat during the Korean War. On July 19, 1952, he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, “for wounds received as a result of enemy action in North Korea.” His 38 year career as a railroad employee began with the L&N Railroad in Louisville, then transferring to the CSX Systems of Jacksonville, Florida in 1980. He was a member of the Corydon Church of the Nazarene, having attended the Heidelberg United Methodist Church until 1951.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dewey Forrest Heishman and his granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Heishman.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Phyllis Jean Alstott Heishman; his son, Randall Lloyd Heishman (Diana) of Port St. Lucie, Florida; his daughter, Gloria Sue Albin (Jerry) of Corydon; his grandchildren, Eric Heishman (Shari), Bradley Heishman, Kristina Bowen (David), Jeremy Albin (Nikki) and Andrea McQueen (Brandon) and his great grandchildren, Kelsey, Breck, Colton, Skylar, Brooklyn and Bryce Heishman, Greyson and Zander Bowen and Sean Albin.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2016, at the Corydon Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Michael Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon and after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to his church.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy and Jerry Albin, Eric and Bradley Heishman, Brandon McQueen and David Bowen.
