Edward Taylor Ashley, 89, of Elizabeth, died Monday, March 12, 2018, at his home near Elizabeth. He was born October 29, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Taylor and Nellie Mae Woodridge Ashley. He was a retired truck driver, was a member of the Lighthouse United Methodist Church and the Hornickel Post American Legion #379 both in Elizabeth and the Teamsters union local #89 in Louisville, and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Mary Louise Smothers Ashley; his grandchildren, Vicki Ashley and Nick Ashley; and his step great grandson, Steven Vernon.
Survivors include his sons, Michael Ashley of Elizabeth, Indiana, Ricki Ashley (Jessie) of English, Indiana, Robert Ashley (Cheryl) of Milltown, Indiana, Ronnie Ashley (Patty) of Elizabeth, Indiana, Donnie Ashley (Wendy) of Brandenburg, Kentucky, Timothy Ashley of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, and Jeff Ashley of Elizabeth, Indiana; his daughter, Rebecca Eckart (Donnie) of Elizabeth; his brother, Walter Ashley (Rosie) of Brandenburg; his sisters, Marilyn Colmore, Pamela Sexton, and Eva Scroggy (Eddie) all of Louisville; 18 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; and 23 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Rev. Richard Goodwin will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Amanda Blackman, Kelly Bledsoe, Kimberly Ashley, Kacey Puckett, and Ashley and Abigail Eckart. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Blackman, Phillip Bledsoe, Craig Puckett, and Derick Ashley.
